Two youths were arrested Saturday in connection with the stabbing death of a gold miner at Baramani backdam.
The victim has been so far identified only as Riley but is subject to further verification, police said.
Those arrested are Rovel Santiago, 21, from Khan Hill, Mabaruma, and Shawn Williams from Kuru Kururu Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Both suspects were arrested “after admitting involvement during police questioning at the mining camp,” police said.
The suspects led investigators to the crime scene, where significant evidence, including suspected murder weapons (knives) and the victim’s blood-stained clothing, were recovered.
Police said Riley was stabbed between 12:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. Saturday, 28 June 2025.
Investigators said the victim’s body was discovered by another miner, naked with multiple stab wounds.
