GECOM’s house-to-house registration decision invalid; Granger’s “bloated” voters’ list claim “not true”- ANUG

A New and United Guyana (ANUG) was hit by resignations following its decision to team up with Azruddin Mohamed’s We Invest in Nationhood (WIN).

Attorneys-at law, Ralph Ramkarran, ANUG’s co-founder, and Timothy Jonas quit the party on Sunday.

Efforts to reach ANUG Leader Dr Mark France were not immediately successful.

Mr Ramkarran told Demerara Waves Online News that his decision to exit ANUG was “because of the linkages it has developed with WIN.”

He elaborated about his reason for walking away from ANUG saying, “Isn’t it obvious? I don’t think ANUG should be associated with WIN because of the latter’s challenged leadership. I could not support ANUG in this venture and was concerned that, unless I resigned, it might be construed that I supported ANUG’s position.”

Asked if he had informed, cautioned or warned Dr France about doing so, Mr Ramkarran said “my opinion was sought and I advised against it.”

For his part, Mr Jonas said he parted ways with ANUG because he did not agree with a number of decisions that were being made. He declined to say whether among them was ANUG’s teaming up with WIN.

WIN Leader Azruddin Mohamed had been sanctioned by the United States for allegedly evading more than US$50 million in taxes on the export of more than 10,000 kilogrammes of raw gold. He has also been charged by the Guyana Revenue Authority with tax evasion and making a false declaration in connection with the importation of his Lamborghini car.

Mr Mohamed said Sunday that WIN’s symbol, not ANUG’s, would be on the ballot paper. GECOM has not approved WIN’s symbol, saying it’s a jaguar but the party leader said it is a leopard.
