The Ministry of Education on Friday announced that schools would reopen on September 8, one week after general and regional elections.
Education Minister Priya Manickchand had earlier this week announced that the start of the 2025–2026 school year would be deferred due to the September 1 general and regional elections.
Almost all schools are used as polling places.
“We wish all of our learners and teachers all the very best for the two remaining weeks of this term and for their August holidays,” the Education Ministry added.
