Agricola killing leads to revenge shooting

The killing of a man in Agricola, Greater Georgetown on Monday later triggered shots fired at the suspect’s home, police said.

Police are continuing their manhunt for the suspected killer and have since arrested the dead man’s brother for discharging a loaded firearm. He has been identified as 22-year-old Keon Narine, an electrician, of Caesar Street, Agricola.

Police said 28-year old Nicholas “Buggs” Narine, a labourer of Agricola, was shot dead at about 8:15 Monday morning on Titus Street.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said investigators were looking for the suspect, 27-year-old Rafael Bollers, an unemployed resident of Brutus Street, Agricola.

“Narine was in the company of others, cleaning a drain at Titus Street Agricola, east of the suspect’s yard, where there is a concrete fence. At the time, the suspect was armed with a handgun and discharged several rounds in Nicholas Narine’s direction,” police alleged.

Police also said that the victim received three gunshots to his right side abdomen, one to his back and one to his upper right hand.

Police were informed that Narine and Bollers were known to each other.

The victim fell to the ground helpless. The suspect then ran out of the yard and made good his escape in a southern direction, with the firearm. The victim was taken to the Diamond Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor, who pronounced him dead on arrival.

Detectives said they found one 9mm spent shell at the scene. Several persons were questioned and statements were taken.

Meanwhile, police have accused Keon Narine of the offence of discharging a loaded firearm with intent.

Police said the offence was committed on the home of 60-year-old Gideon Bollers, a carpenter of Lot 120 Brutus Street, Agricola, at 08:30 Monday morning. Mr Bollers’ son, Raphael, is accused of killing Nicholas Narine.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Narine went to Brutus Street on a motorcycle, reportedly armed with a firearm and stopped in front of the said house and discharged several rounds which hit the house several places,” the GPF said. Keon Narine, according to police, then made good his escape, on the motorcycle, in a northern direction.

“Subsequently, Police said they went to Narine’s home, where he was apprehended. “When questioned further at the station, Narine told detectives that he shot at the house, because the 60-year-old man’s son, Raphael Bollers, killed his brother, Nicholas Narine. He also said that the firearm belongs to his brother Nicholas Narine,” police said.

Police also said a search was conducted on the premises and an AR-15 rifle and one magazine containing five live 5.56mm rounds of ammunition were found in a bedroom, where the suspect was.

He was told of the allegation and the offences committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Ruimveldt Police Station, along with the firearm and ammunition, police said.

Detectives, who processed the scene, recovered eighteen 5.56mm spent shells.
