Indian parliamentarians’ visit to stress anti-terrorism

Last Updated on Sunday, 25 May 2025, 9:33 by Writer

The Indian High Commission on Saturday announced that a three-day visit by seven Indian parliamentarians would send a clear message against terrorism.

The diplomatic mission said the “all parliamentary” delegation’s visit to Guyana from May 25 to 27 would “convey India’s strong message of zero-tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”

The Hindu reports that the visit will follow the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

The delegation would be led by Dr Shashi Tharoor.

The High Commission said the delegation would be interacting with the Guyanese leadership and key interlocutors from the media, the Indian community and diaspora, and friends of India in Guyana.

The Indian lawmakers would be “underlining our strong message of unity and brotherhood as well as India’s collective resolve to fight against the scourge of terrorism.”

The delegation will also join the 59th Independence Day celebrations that will be hosted by the Guyana government in Berbice on 25 May, 2025.

Making up the delegation are:

  1. Hon. Dr. Shashi Tharoor (Head of Delegation), Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha;
  2. Hon. Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha;
  3. Hon. Shri Harish Madhur Ganti, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha;
  4. Hon. Shri Shashank Mani Tripathi, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha;
  5. Hon. Shri Bhubaneswar Kalita, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha;
  6. Hon. Shri Milind Murli Deora, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha;
  7. Hon. Shri Tejasvi Suryanaryana Lakya, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha;
  8. Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu, former Ambassador of India to the USA and former High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka.
