A man was convicted on Wednesday on two counts of being in possession of a total of 2,374 kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and was jailed and fined GY$3.5 million, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said.
City Magistrate Leron Daly sentenced Kabir Samsoondar to 35 months imprisonment together with a fine of GYD$1,733,000 for possession of 1.182 kilogrammes of cocaine and GY$1,788,000 for possession of 1.192 kilogrammes of cocaine, both for the purpose of trafficking.
Samsoondar was arrested on December 20, 2021 on Durey Lane, Campbellville, Georgetown, where he had 1.182 kilogrammes of cocaine in a haversack on his back. CANU also said he was taken to his home on Delph Street, Campbellville, where 1.192 kilogrammes of cocaine were found in a room.
