Son of Guyanese parents killed in The Bahamas

DEAD: Dinari Mc Almont

DEAD: Dinari Mc Almont

An American man, born to Guyanese parents, was killed in The Bahamas last week Friday but police there have so far refused to release any information about the incident.

A Bahamas Police Force spokeswoman told Demerara Waves Online News that procedures have to be followed before information is released.
Similarly, Michelle McAlmont, the mother of the 23-year-old man, said the police force has been tight-lipped in releasing information about the incident.
Dinari McAlmont went missing last Friday night or early Saturday morning. His parents had said that he was last seen at around 11 p.m. on April 4.
His parents are from Guyana and they live in Maryland, United States. They had gone to The Bahamas for a family vacation.

The Bahamas’ Eyewitness News reported that his body was discovered by authorities on Saturday morning on the shoreline of Paradise Island. She said the incident has left with nothing but the loss of her child and many unanswered questions.

Hours before her son’s body was found, Mrs McAlmont was texting him, trying to understand his whereabouts.

She said after 1 a.m. on Saturday, police contacted her to inform her that someone had reported her son to authorities, alleging that he had spat at them. However, details surrounding this reported incident remained unclear, as her son was later found lifeless.

The woman said police visited the hotel with her son’s phone in their possession and were asking several questions rather than providing information.

They claimed that Dinari allegedly spat on someone.

The phone reportedly fell out of his pocket.

Mrs McAlmont, shortly after identifying her son’s body at a mortuary, said he was unrecognisable. “He was traumatised. His face was damaged. His teeth has a lot of froth. His hair full of sand. That tells me they beat my son down in that sand,” she said.

The woman said police had so far not provided any information about her son’s whereabouts leading up to the discovery of the body on the beach.

“Up to now they have not shown me any videos of what transpired at the casino in the Royal. They have not shown me where my son was found. Somebody would have had to take him there because there is no way he would have gone to the beach,” she said.

The parents planned to meet with the United States Embassy in The Bahamas and track down authorities for more answers about the demise of her son.
