People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Leader Aubrey Norton on Tuesday denied that mediation was being considered to break the deadlock in coalition talks with the Alliance For Change (AFC).
“At no stage did we discuss the question of a mediator,” he told Demerara Waves Online News.
Meanwhile, an AFC top official appeared to paint a bleak picture about the future of the engagements with the PNCR.
“No response was received from APNU. Not sure if and when one will be received,” the official told Demerara Waves Online News.
Already Mr Norton has said that his party is not opposed to a coalition but it must be recognised that the PNCR is doing a lot of the work.
The AFC is demanding that its Leader, Nigel Hughes or someone else mutually agree to be the coalition’s presidential candidate. Alternatively, the AFC wants Mr Hughes to be the prime ministerial candidate and determine who should be the Representative of the List of candidates.
PNCR insiders are scoffing at the AFC’s proposal for 40 percent of the positions.
They say provision has to be made for positions for candidates from smaller parties under the banner of A Partnership for National Unity.
