The President of the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Samantha Reid-Wade has been placed on GY$100,000 station bail although the e-bike rider, who she allegedly knocked down, was seriously injured, according to a relative and investigators.
The accident occurred Friday afternoon at about 5 O’clock on the Fairfield Village Public Road.
The vehicle, bearing licence number PAL 7721, is said to be owned by someone else and is believed to be the subject of an investigation.
Demerara Waves Online News was told that certain investigators are gravely upset that Ms Reid-Wade, whose friend is a presidential bodyguard, was released on grounds that the accident was minor. A breathalyser test reportedly showed that Ms Reid-Wade was far below the legal limit for alcohol use by drivers.
However, a brother of the victim told Demerara Waves Online News that Prakash Persaud was transferred from the Mahaicony Hospital to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is being treated for a broken collarbone, injured lung and other injuries. Mr Persaud is said to be receiving oxygen.
At the time of the accident Mr Persaud, of Providence, East Bank Demerara, was residing temporarily at Quaker’s Hall with his brother.
