IDPADA-G tells UN forum time for assessments of Afro Guyanese, Afro-Caribbean peoples

Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes addressing the United Nations Permanent forum on people of African descent on May 30, 2023.

United States (US)-sanctioned Guyanese city businessmen Nazar “Shell” Mohamed and his son Azruddin have consulted Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes.

The Mohameds’ engagement with the lawyer follows concerns by the Mohameds that their constitutional rights were being violated by government’s refusal to do business with them due to the sanctions for alleged tax evasion on gold sales.

“The discussion included addressing legal obstacles which the team was encountering in its philanthropic work,” he said on his Facebook profile.

Mr Azruddin’s business, Hadi’s World, would no longer receive permission from the Maritime Administration for its foreign-flagged vessels to engage in coastal voyages.

Mr Hughes said his law office was seeking its own independent advice on whether legal services could be provided to the Mohameds. The law firm of Hughes. Fields and Stoby (HFS) had established operations in Houston, Texas, targeting mainly oil and gas businesses.

Mr Hughes, who is also the Leader of the Alliance For Change (AFC), said that party’s General Secretary, Raphael Trotman participated in the meeting at the HFS office to provide professional political advice to Mr Hughes on the possible political implications of his possible professional engagement with the Mohameds.
