Last Updated on Monday, 15 September 2014, 19:49 by GxMedia

The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court

A taxi driver was Monday arraigned in a charge of robbery under arms and refused bail.

Twenty-nine year old Jesse Knights, a driver at GEM’s Taxi Service, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Knights of Independence Boulevard (Punt Trench Dam) is accused of, being in the company of another person who was armed with a gun, robbing Desiree Fredericks of GUY$10,000.

The offence was allegedly committed on September 12 at Robb Street, Georgetown.

Defence Lawyer, Kayreen Stephenson told the court that her client does not have any previous convictions.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Michael Grant objected to bail based on the nature and seriousness of the offence and the use of a firearm.

City Magistrate, Judy Latchman ordered that Knights be remanded to prison until his next court appearance on September 30.

The Prosecution’s case is that about 2 AM, that Knights and someone else entered Fredericks’ apartment through an open door and demanded cash and jewellery from her. She said she only had GUY$10,000 in her possession at the time of the robbery.

The prosecutor said Knights was arrested in a taxi and he was taken to the Alberttown Police Station where he was identified as the alleged perpetrator.
