City Chamber gifts police force breathalyzer test kits

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on Tuesday aided the police force’s crackdown on drunken driving with the donation of more than GUY$1 million worth of breathalyzer test kits.

“We hope therefore that the breathalyzers and supporting equipment will be used by the Guyana Police Force to even further engage in operations to reduce the instances of drunk driving and deal promptly and severely with those who continue to do so,” said GCCI President, Lance Hinds at the handing over of the kits to the police force.

The five breathalyzer test kits, including thermal printers, value GUY$1,499,520.

Contributing to the purchase were BEV Processors, Digicel Guyana, John Fernandes Limited, John Lewis Styles, Republic Bank Guyana Limited and Trans Pacific Motor Spares.

Hinds said the city business organisation decided to buy and donate the kits because of the deadly consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol.

“The Chamber believes as a national stakeholder we should be concerned about these kinds of challenges and where it is at all possible support or be part of a positive and constructive contribution,” he added.
