Stage set for reconstitution of four service commissions

Consultations between President Donald Ramotar and Opposition Leader, David Granger concluded on the reconstitution of the service commissions on August 22 and the stage is now set for the swearing in of members.

           
The four service commissions are: the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Teaching Service Commission (TSC), the Public Service Commission and the Police Service Commission.

         
Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon at his weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at the Office of the President today, said that the lives of these commissions expired over the past year and the constitutionally mandated provisions for their reconstitution have finally been completed.

           
With the exception of the TSC, parliamentary inputs into the membership of the other three had to be garnered. Nominations through the parliamentary procedure include: former Justice Lennox Perry for the JSC; Patrick Yarde and Patricia Went for the Public Service Commission and Harold Martin, Keith John, Omesh Satyanand and Alvin Smith for the Police Service Commission.

           
Discussions between the President and the Opposition Leader resulted in the appointment of Leila Ramson, Mayda Persaud and Allan Monroe for the TSC; former Justice Prem Persaud for the JSC and Carvil Dincan, Cecil Seepersaud, and Vidya Looknauth for the Public Service Commission.

           
The President and the Leader of the Opposition consulted on the chairperson of the Police Service Commission and agreed on the appointment of Omesh Satyanand; while the members of the TSC and Public Service Commission will meet to elect their respective chairs, deputy chairs and fulltime members.
