Men accused of stealing funeral parlour’s property

Two badly beaten men were granted bail on Friday after they were arraigned on a charge of attempting to steal a truck shaft belonging to Merriman’s Funeral Home.

Fizal Mohamed,32, a mechanic of East Ruimveldt and labourer, 17-year old Michael Eastman of 11 Meadow Brook were each granted GUY$100,000 bail.

They pleaded not guilty to the offence when they appeared before Magistrate Fabayo-Azore.

When the men raised their shirts and complained to the magistrate that they were badly beaten by police, the Police Prosecutor informed the court that the accused were thrashed by public spirited citizens.

Mohamed and Eastman were ordered to return to court on July 8 when they would appear before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Police said that on July 3 at Meadow Brook, Georgetown they attempted to steal the shaft from motor truck, GEE 8125, valued at GUY$70,000 property of Todd Alphonso Merriman.
