A well-known New Amsterdam businessman Wednesday night allegedly shot a man he said was squatting on his land, residents said.

The incident occurred at Vryheid , New Amsterdam.

The man, who owns a night spot and mall, was taken away from the scene in a police vehicle.

His car was subsequently burnt by angry residents.
