Several persons exited the church through the window to avoid a stampede. The service was later moved from the Port Kaituma Christ Crusaders Assembly to the Fitzburg ball field.
The most touching of all moments was when the two coffins bearing the mortal remains of the La Cruzs were placed on two zinc sheets outside what is left of their house and business on Main Road, Port Kaituma.
