She is 41-year old Ashery Corbin of 2944 Lakeshore Boulevard West, Toronto, Canada and 125 Bagotsville, West Bank Demerara.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, the cosmetologist denied that she had 6.116 kg of cocaine for trafficking. At the time she was arrested by agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) on February 26, while being an outgoing passenger on a Caribbean Airlines flight to Toronto, Canada.

CANU Prosecutor, Oswald Massiah said that during checks, anti-drug agents observed on the scanner strange objects in her luggage. Massiah added that she was summoned to identify her suitcase and a search revealed two zip lock bags containing achar with a seed like substance which was tested to be cocaine.

She was unrepresented and bail was refused for no special reason being offered. The matter was transferred to Providence Court for February 28.

Massiah told the court that Corbin was born in Guyana but left for Canada in 1993.

According to the Prosecutor, the defendant was in Canada when received a phone call from Wayne Williams requesting her to come to Guyana and take back some illegal stuff to Canada. According to the prosecutor, she told him she is not in the position to book her flight, however he offered to book it and pay her US$10,000.

She arrived in Guyana on February 19 and was scheduled to depart to Canada on February 24. The defendant was informed by Williams that she will miss her flight on that day and he will re-book the ticket for February 26.

The court was also told that Williams arranged with a taxi to take her to the airport.

CANU has since issued a wanted bulletin for Wayne Hubert Williams also known as “Splicer”. His addresses are Greenheart Street , South Ruimveldt and Lot 50 New Hope, East Bank Demerara. CANU said he is wanted in connection withcocaine found  at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport on February 26
