A taxi driver accused of falsely claiming that he could sell a car and obtained GUY$1.1 million dollars from another man was Thursday freed on GUY$350,000 bail.City Magistrate Fabayo Azore granted 40-year old Satyanand Persaud his pre-trial liberty after he pleaded not guilty to the offence of with intent to defraud and by falsely pretending that he was in a position to sell, he falsely obtained the sum of GUY$ 1.1M from Paul Ramsarran between Saturday, September 1, 2012 and Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Forshaw Street, Queenstown, Georgetown.
Persaud was ordered to return to court on February 28
The prosecution’s case is that Persaud took Ramsarran’s money but never delivered the car although he had held himself out as having the ability to do so.
Citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and the possibility of the accused fleeing the jurisdiction, the prosecution objected to bail. Police said that after the alleged offence was reported several unsuccessful efforts had been made to contact Persaud at the Queenstown address.
