53-year old Errol Keilar of 47 Norton Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to being in possession of 176 grammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking when he appeared before City Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan.
He was refused bail and ordered to return to court on February 17 after the Magistrate ruled that the lawyer did not advance special reasons for granting him pre-trial liberty.
Police said they searched his residence in Keilar’s presence and found the marijuana in the second bedroom of the top flat.
Defence Lawyer, Mark Waldron told the court that Keilar was not present when the search was conducted but yet still the police said they found a parcel of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be the illegal substance.
Waldron argued in his bail application that the house was occupied by three other persons and so there was insufficient evidence to prove that the narcotic belonged to Keilar.
