Fire fighters late Saturday night contained a blaze at the Fullworths Auto Spares Building which had housed a Chinese clothing store.
Thirty-eight year old Rusdale Farley, who is the caretaker of a wooden house behind the store, was rescued by firemen who broke down the door to remove her from the building that was under severe threat. That house ended up being badly scorched.
The cause of the fire at the building located three doors west of Regent and Oronoque Streets was not immediately known.
Golyn and Sons, which is located Immediately west of the Fullworks Building, was scorched.
Owner of the virtually destroyed building, Roshan Ali told reporters that the fire fighters took a while before they responded to the report. He said the tenants only conducted business on the premises but never lived there.
Ali said he was not immediately certain what might have caused the blaze. βIβm not sure. Itβs on the eastern side where those wires are. It started there. When I came down, fire was on that one side,β he said.
Fire Chief Marlon Gentle said several fire tenders and tankers supplied water to extinguish the fire.
