The body of a a well-known resident of Linden was recovered from Upper Demerara River after the pick up he was driving plunged off the Wismar-Mackenzie bridge, police said.
Residents say that 37-year old Collis “Tom” Mentis, a beverage distributor and owner of a bar, was driving the vehicle at the time.
The vehicle wa located and salvaged and Mentis’ body was taken to mortuary in Linden.
Police said that about 7:30 AM Mentis of Republic Avenue, Linden, was driving a motor pick-up over the Mackenzie/Wismar Bridge when he apparently lost control of the vehicle which crashed through the railing and plunged into the Demerara River.
