A National Insurance Scheme (NIS) clerk in Lethem was Thursday arrested in connection with an alleged GUY$2 million robbery at a time when social security auditors are in the township, according to well-placed sources.
The woman claimed that she was held at knife-point about 8 AM Thursday.
Police were summoned and the clerk, who lives at St. Ignatius, was detained by investigators.
The incident occurred at a time when NIS officials were in the area to prepare for an audit of the Local Office.
Police and NIS officials were working to ascertain whether all the monies paid by employers and employees have been remitted to the cash-strapped social security agency.
