The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Monday said it was searching for 10 rounds of assault rifle ammunition that has gone missing from the Tacama military training school.
The defence force said “investigators are currently checking” for the ten 7.62 x 39mm rounds that went missing from the Guard Room from the Guard Room of the Colonel John Clarke Military School at Tacama, Upper Berbice River.
The GDF assured that it has since conducted checks that accounted for all other ammunition held at the Colonel John Clarke Military Training School, Tacama.
The army announced that a separate Board of Inquiry has been established to report on any breaches of the Standing Operating Procedures for the handling and accounting for ammunition at that training location.
Several assault rifles, handguns and ammunition have in the past been stolen from the GDF. Most have been recovered.
