A suspected bandit was Friday afternoon shot and killed when he allegedly opened fire on police who had gone to probe a break-in at a Mahaicony home.
Police were up to Thursday night hunting the suspect’s accomplice who escaped into the backlands of the East Coast Demerara village. Another male suspect was arrested while attempting to board a minibus.
One .32 snub-nose revolver and a 9mm. pistol were recovered at the scene by the police. A bag containing a pair of binoculars, a cell phone and a cap were also found, police said.
Police spokesman Ivelaw Whittaker said that about 1:30 PM ,mini-bus driver Veerapen Jebode, 58 years, of Good Faith, Mahaicony returned home and found that his home had been broken and entered.
