The handgun allegedly found in possession of a man who the police gunned down at Meten-Meer-Zorg was used at the scene of the robbery-murder in that West Coast Demerara village, police said.Deputy Police Commissioner, Seelall Persaud said ballistic tests conducted on spent shells found at the scene of Vicky Namdar’s murder and robbery on September 11 matched the 9 MM pistol that was found in the possession of Kirk Bacchus. Police have previously said that two 7.62 MM riflles were fired at Meten-Meer-Zorg and an armed robbery at Wakenaam four days earlier.
Police have since issued a wanted bulletin for Keifa “Frog Eye” Small of 74 Campbelville Housing Scheme for questioning in connection with the murder of Namdar.
The Chief of Criminal Investigations has praised not only members of the force who are conducting the probe but also residents for their cooperation with investigators. “I would like to express my thanks to the residents of Meten Meer Zorg, without exception, for the assistance and support they gave us during the investigation,” he said.
So far, 17 persons have been arrested and two 9 MM handguns have been recovered.
Investigators said several of the detainees have confessed to being involved in the Namdar incident and the armed robbery with violence committed on September 7 at the Wakenaam Island residence of Rohan “Anand” Dhanayshure. He was shot to his right arm and his daughter and her boyfriend were beaten and robbed during that ordeal.
The probe has so far pointed to the involvement of several speed boat owners and operators, according to police.
The Deputy Police Commissioner has confirmed that police have begun dismantling a network of criminals stretching from Georgetown to the West Coast Demerara.
The crackdown began mid-Monday morning when Bacchus and four men exited two cars at Kastev Housing Scheme, Meten-Meer-Zorg. Acting on information, police intercepted them and exchanged gunfire, fatally hitting Bacchus. Two others were arrested and Small escaped into a nearby cemetery. Police said he was armed.
