Two men were Wednesday afternoon arrested shortly after they grabbed a bag containing GYD$2 million from a Tower Hotel accountant shorty after he returned from a city bank.
A security guard, who was in the vehicle that transported the accountant with the cash, sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen after one of the bandits discharged a round, broke a window, snatched the cash and escaped on a motorcycle.
The incident occurred at about 12:30 PM outside Tower Hotel.  The security guard has since been admitted in a stable condition at a private city hospital.
The Guyana Police Force said the vehicle was moments later intercepted by police. “A mobile patrol acting on information received pursued the suspects, who tried to elude the lawmen and ended up in the Sussex Street Canal in the vicinity of North East La penitence.

The motorcycle and a significant amount of cash were recovered, however one of the suspects admitted to dropping the firearm in the canal,” police said,
“The employee who is an accountant with the hotel, had recently returned from making a substantial withdrawal from a city bank and about to disembark his vehicle in front of the hotel, when he was approached by one of the suspects, who discharged a round from a firearm,” police said.
