No indications of change in US visa policy after Trump win- Amb. Holloway

United States Ambassador to Guyana, Perry Holloway on Friday said Guyanese should not be worried about getting a hard time to obtain visas now that Donald Trump has been elected President.

“There is no perceived change in our visa policy nor do I expect there to be. That is done by our Congress. Any changes take a long time to happen and there are no indications that will change,” Holloway said when asked by Demerara Waves Online News.

One of Trump’s major election campaign themes was making the US safe again by embarking on an aggressive policy of deporting about 11 million undocumented immigrants, making it difficult to get student visas and cancelling President Barack Obama’s programmes that would have granted undocumented immigrants temporary reprieves from removal and given long-term resident illegal immigrants work permits.

Trump has cited the need for the US to be much more stringent in deciding who lands on American soil in light of ongoing concerns about terrorism.

Here in Guyana, some residents are worried that a Trump administration would tighten up on the issuance of tourist visas.
