Massive multi-million dollar fraud uncovered at CJIA Customs department

Cheddi Jagan International Airport

The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GTT) said that as of 7 AM on Friday, August 5, 2016 all its services have been restored to “full strength.”

“Our *100# menu is back and is ready to provide you with all the services that you have become accustomed to,” the company stated. This includes MyAccount and Mobile Money services.

Meanwhile, the international aviation communications company, SITA), has confirmed that airlines at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) are again able to use the automatic check-in system whose data link had collapsed several days ago. “We can confirm that SITA’s automated check-in system was affected by an internet outage at Cheddi Jagan International Airport due to the failure of a submarine cable system providing connectivity to the airport. Working together with Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GTT) and the airport authorities, SITA has since restored its automated check-in service to airlines,” a SITA spokesman told Demerara Waves Online News.

GTT explained that the issue was precipitated by a break in the subsea cable near Martinique on July 31, 2016but was restored via redundant routes. French engineers are feverishly working to fix the consortium ownedAmericas II cable. The Americas II system is expected to be restored by Monday, August 8, 2016.

GTT emphasised that the damaged cable did not disrupt any internet services as these were made available via GTT’s redundant routes which worked well as expected.

GTT says that it, however, acknowledges the inconvenience experienced by customers and, starting today we will tangibly show our gratitude with a 300% bonus on every CPoint top up done up to midnight of August 7. The bonus will be valid for 48 hrs and can be used for calls and text to GTT, USA and Canada.GTT will over the next 5 days continue to give significant offers to say “thank you for sticking with us”.
