Suspect in homicide-heist held

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 21:01 by GxMedia

Cecil Gajadhar’s car with the body of Victor Da Silva.

Crime sleuths were up to Tuesday interrogating a suspect in connection with the multi-million dollar robbery and homicide committed on an East Coast Demerara gas station owner and his employee in Georgetown, police said.

Chief of Criminal Investigations, Deputy Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud declined to say whether the detainee was a prime suspect.  The man was held several hours after the incident that occurred around 8:15 AM.

Investigators are searching for three others they believe can help in the probe. Persaud disputed a Kaieteur News report that three men were held at an East Bank Demerara hotel shortly after the Monday morning incident at Cowan and Water Streets, Kingston.

Hospital sources said that 71-year old Cecil Albert Gajadhar was still nursing a bullet in his head but he was in high spirits and in a stable and conscious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Gajadhar’s long-time employee, Victor “Red Man” Da Silva was shot and killed in the vehicle when two gunmen ambushed them as they were heading to bank in the city.

The men fled with a bag containing GUY$8 million.

Gajadhar, who owns a filling station at Foulis, East Coast Demerara, drove his vehicle to an alley way between GTM Insurance Company and Republic Bank on Robb Street, Georgetown.

From there, he was rushed to the GPHC.

Police believe that a person or persons who work with Gajadhar are responsible for repeated multi-million dollar robberies being committed on the businessman in the city.
