A parliamentarian for the main opposition People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) has been accused of threatening to shoot an official of the Inter- American Development (IDB) last week.
Police said the incident occurred at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.
The parliamentarian, Nigel Dharamlall, has since been questioned by police, but investigators have declined to say whether he brandished or pulled the firearm during the threat or merely uttered the words. “The matter is under investigation,” said East Demerara Divisional Commander, Marlon Chapman.
Police are said to be seeking legal advice on the matter.
Police also declined to say whether the PPPC MP has been ordered to surrender the firearm pending the outcome of the probe.
Calls to the PPP MP’s telephone and messages to his WhatsApp messages went unanswered.
The Inter American Development Bank’s Representative to Guyana, Sophie Makonnen , through a receptionist, declined to comment at this time.
