ARMED ROBBERY CONVICT: Troy Abrams

One of the men accused of robbing two America Street money-changers late last year was Friday found guilty and jailed for five years.

Troy Abrams was found guilty by Chief Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan, based on witnesses’ accounts of the lighting conditions, identification of the accused and prior knowledge of Abrams.

The charge against Anthony Primo of West Ruimveldt was discontinued because he died in the Camp Street prison fire on March 3, 2016.

The two were jointly charged with two counts of robbery committed on November 3, 2015 on

They had been charged with, being armed with a gun, robbing Rayburn Fraser of GYD$820,000, US$300,000,  TT$200,000  and other currencies. Police also said that on the same day they robbed Osafo Ward of GYD$940,000.

Other factors considered were the seriousness of the offence, public safety, the manner in which the crime was planned and need to deter others from contemplating the commission of such crimes.

Contrary to Abrams claim that he at the time of the robber he and his girlfriend were watching a movie named Soul Food, the young lady said she never watched the movie.

The case involving Osafa was dismissed because his account was not found to be truthful.
