An outgoing employee of the United Nations (UN) system is tipped to be appointed Commissioner of Guyana’s Lands and Surveys Commission, according to reliable sources.
The official, who previously was a Senior Land Development Officer in at the Commission, could take up the appointment as early as next month.
A source said the intended appointee said has already resigned from his job in the UN system and would prefer to await full confirmation of his appointment to head the regulatory agency before speaking with the media.
Currently the holder of a Masters Degree in Public Administration, the incoming Commissioner is said to have wide and varied experience in poverty issues, and the engagement of civil society and political organisations.
The graduate of the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) has also executed duties in several Developing Countries in Africa and elsewhere during his stint with the United Nations system.
He is a former top official of one of Guyana’s most populated administrative regions.
The Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission has come under sharper focus in recent months about the need for transparency and accountability.
