Linden toll booth to be returned to Town Council after LGE

Government Monday night announced that the Linden-Wismar bridge toll booth would again come under the control of the Linden Town Council following next Friday's Local Government Elections.

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Basil Williams made the announcement at a public meeting at the Linden Bus Park.

Williams referred the tussle between the Linden Town Council, Region 10 administration and the then Central Government over the control of the toll booth.

The Attorney General said Linden had lost more than GYD$250 million in toll that should have been paid by the Chinese forest company, Baishan Lin, if control of the toll booth had not been removed from the Town Council.

"The important thing is that they (then People's Progressive Party Civic administration) didn't want you to be enriched and empowered," said Williams.

He promised that the Parliamentary Counsel of the Ministry of Legal Affairs would amend the regulations to allow for the toll booth to be returned to the Town Council as a revenue generating mechanism.

The Attorney General used the opportunity to annpunce that a new Region 10 Administration Building would be constructed and several roads in the town would be rehabilitated.
