A New York-bound man was Thursday morning caught with a quantity of cocaine stashed in his suitcase, officials said.
Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) agents intercepted the piece of baggage with the illicit substance shortly before the man was due to board the flight.
He and the suiitcase with the drug were due to be transported to CANU’s headquarters for weighing, processing and the institution of charges.
This is the second time in one week that someone has been caught attempting to export cocaine in a suitcase.
The first was on June 7 when 41-year old Johall Abram Manget was arrested by police at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport with 2 kilogrammes, 615 grammes of the narcotic.
The cocaine was stashed in a false bottom suitcase that he was hoping to take to Toronto.
He pleaded guilty and was jailed for three years and fined GUY$30,000.
