Guyana researching tourism brand

Last Updated on Saturday, 26 December 2015, 21:01 by GxMedia

Government is preparing to research the branding of Guyana as a tourism destination, with assistance from the Inter American Development Bank (IDB).

Several local and foreign companies and entities have thrown their hat in the ring to see which one will get the nod by the National Procurement and Tender Administration (NPTAB).

Government wants the winning consulting firm to conduct a study of Guyana’s tourism brand.

No tourism official was at the NPTAB when the eight bids were opened, but one of the bidder’s local associates explained the purpose of the project.

The bidders are Acorn Tourism Consulting Limited of the United Kingdom, Green Team Advertising Inc of NY in assoc Small Planet Consulting Inc; Canadian Executive Services Organisation, THR Turismo Hoteleria Recreacion of Spain, Trevor Hamilton and Associates International Management Consultants of Jamaica in association with EVN Consultants Limited, KOAN Consulting SL of Spain, and Representation Plus UK Limited.

Sharon Laljee of Tactical Branding, in association with Acorn Tourism Consulting, said the bidders intend to conduct research as part of the wider project of rebranding Guyana.

“There is a research segment that is supposed to be conducted in some international countries and there is a rebranding segment of the proposal that requires that after the research is done, the results will be compiled, assessed and recommendations given for the rebranding of Guyana,” she said.

Among the countries in which the research would be conducted are the United Kingdom, United States and Canada.

Funding for the study is being drawn from the IDB loan for the Support for Competitiveness Programme (SCP).

Consultants will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the IDB Policies for the Selection and Contracting of Consultants financed by the hemispheric financial institution and is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the policies.
