Senior public servants were Thursday urged to be politically neutral and offer the same quality of service across Guyana.Addressing the Heads of Personnel Units at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Minister of State Joseph Harmon said public servants are expected to provide a high quality of service regardless of their own political persuasion.
Harmon also stressed the importance of residents of the coast-land and the hinterland receive the same quality of service instead of higher quality only in the interior.
The Minister said public servants must aid politicians in implementing government policy and do not make wild statements and “policy drifts.”
Public servants, he promised, would be provided the tools and quality of remuneration to make them more efficient.
The Minister detailed that at least 500 public servants would be trained at the Public Staff College over the next five years and Heads of Departments and Permanent Secretaries would be offered upgraded training through the courtesy of Canada’s Leadership Training Programme.
