Guyanese arrested allegedly at cocaine “factory” in Grenada

Four Guyanese men  on Friday remained in a Grenada jail pending trial for alleged cocaine trafficking after they and two young women were arrested and four kilogrammes of cocaine seized from a house known as “the factory.”

The Grenada Informer newspaper names those remanded to prison until October 27 as Colin Hooper 34, Osafi Bobb 21, Mahendranauth Daff 34 and 50-year old David Frank.

Chief Magistrate, Tamera Gill refused the accused bail after the prosecutor argued that they are non-nationals and pose a flight risk.

The quartet were arrested by the Drug Squad of the Royal Grenada Police Force during a raid on a hotel and a house at Tempe Village in the southern part of that Caribbean island between September 4 and October 4, 2015.

The Guyanese men are represented by Attorney-at-Law, Peter David.

They  are facing 12 charges ranging from, conspiracy, trafficking and possession of a controlled drug, possession of equipment to be used in the processing of cocaine, doing an act proprietary to trafficking, and possession of arms and ammunition. Sources said a quantity of equipment believed to be used in the processing of cocaine was discovered. Some of the items discovered were, body filler, hydraulic jack, hammer, baking sheets, sealers plastic wrap among others.

State Prosecutor Howard has decided to proceed indictable on all counts, sighting the seriousness of the offence before the court and the level of organization that went into the alleged operation.

Meanwhile, two Grenadian women – 18 year old Rashida Marshall and 19-year old Johsan Harriman- who were allegedly linked to the Guyanese men and the drug operation- were granted bail in the sum of  Eastern Caribbean $25,000 each.

The young women were also required to surrender all travel documents and report to the Gouyave police Station twice weekly Monday and Friday between the hours of 6am and 6pm.
