Five regions to benefit from community road upgrade

Residents of Regions Three, Four, Five, Six and Ten are soon expected to benefit from improved community roads, as Cabinet granted its ‘no objection’ to the awarding of several contracts in this regard, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.

Minister of Governance Raphael Trotman today made this announcement, at the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at the Ministry of the Presidency.

The Minister, in the absence of Minister of State Joseph Harmon, briefed the media on Cabinet’s recent deliberations, explaining that these works are expected to be completed by the end of the current budgetary period which is December.

Minister Trotman is confident that these new projects will boost the regional economy, as jobs are expected to be provided to residents within the respective regions. “It is anticipated that these will add stimulus to the construction industry.”

The Minister advised, that  for Region Three,  two construction companies were granted contracts, the first being Mohamed Ramzan Ali Khan, for the sum of $15, 976, 590, while Compustruc Engineering was awarded a contract totalling $15,184,400.

In Region Four, two construction companies were also awarded contracts; these are Excel Engineering for the sum of $22,348,725, and Latchman Business Establishment and Civil Works, for $16,990,050.

For Region Five, H. Nauth and Sons was awarded the contract for the rehabilitation and construction of community roads, for the sum of $36,597,750.

Meanwhile for Region Six, Latchman Business Establishment and Civil Works was granted a road contract for the sum of $28,081,900 while for Region Ten, F. Jagmohan’s Hardware Supplies and Construction Company was awarded a contract to the tune of $31,535,350.

The Minister told the media that “all contracts passed through the National Tender Board process of the Ministry of Finance, before they reached to Cabinet.”
