The headquarters of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), Camp Street, Georgetown.

The Peopleā€™s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) has offered to have former Attorney General Anil Nandlall brief his successor, Basil Williams about several tax evasion cases that could rake in about GUY$20 billion if they are won.

Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo says he felt, during talks with President David Granger, that the administration was willing to take up the offer.

ā€œWe will share all of the institutional memory that we have about those tax cases because we donā€™t want the government to lose those tax cases based on bad legal representation because it will cost the Treasury billions of dollars and us as taxpayers, people of this country,ā€ he told a news conference.

Based on a rough calculation of about seven of the cases, Jagdeo said the outstanding taxes amount to more than GUY$20 billion that his administration was pursuing in court. ā€œWe do not want the government to lose those cases,ā€ he said.

The former Guyanese leader said in his talks with President Granger, he identified a few of the court cases.

The Opposition Leader assured that as a ā€œresponsible oppositionā€ the PPP should share its institutional memory with the government.
