Georgetown Hub commences search for new Global Shapers

Last Updated on Tuesday, 1 September 2015, 19:20 by GxMedia

Members of the Gobal Shapers- Georgetown Hub

The Global Shapers Community-Georgetown Hub on Tuesday said it is looking for young, extraordinary individuals with great potential for future leadership roles in the society.

“To further strengthen our ability to execute our mandate, the Georgetown Hub is looking for new Global Shapers. Applicants should be between the ages of 20 and 30, resident in Guyana or have significant ties that would enable the applicant to fully participate in the hub’s activities. The application deadline has been extended to September 15, 2015,” said the organisation.

The Global Shapers Community is a worldwide network of more than 400 city-based Hubs developed and led by promising young leaders between the ages of 20 and 30, who want to build on their achievements and entrepreneurial drive to make a positive contribution to their communities. The Global Shapers Community is an initiative of the World Economic Forum and is independent, neutral, non-political and not for profit.

The Georgetown Hub is the first to be convened in the Caribbean. “We are a diverse, innovative, extraordinary group of young people who are working in our personal lives to make a change around causes that are important and require attention. We work together because collaborative action is much more powerful than individuals working in insolation,” the organisation said in a statement.

Over the past year, the Georgetown Hub has launched a library in South Pattensen, provided school supplies to over 400 students in hinterland communities, partnered with other youth NGOs for leadership sessions, hosted a communications workshop and continue to do more projects. The Global Shapers Georgetown Hub also nnonced that it is executing its 3rd annual stationery drive, designing a project on mental health issues, and working on a literacy programme to commence at the library in South Pattensen.
