A French Guianese man, who is wanted in France in connection with a murder investigation, has been arrested in Guyana on an INTERPOL arrest warrant and faces extradition, police said Thursday.
Dane Langhorne, 29, of Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara was remanded to prison until October 23 by Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman pending the start of an extradition hearing.
The French newspaper, Le Monde, reported that Langhorne was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for the 2021 murder of Alicia Faye, a cocaine mule, as she was transporting €25,000 to a local supplier. She was shot in the head on March 13, 2021, less than 24 hours after arriving in Cayenne.
On Tuesday October 13, 2026, Langhorne was brought before the Chief Magistrate at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court in connection with extradition proceedings under the Fugitive Offenders Act, Chapter 10:04.
After the information was read, his lawyer made an application for bail but it was denied.
He was arrested on Sunday October 11, 2026, about 7:45 AM at Lusignan Tarmac, East Coast Demerara, during a police operation, the law enforcement agency said in a statement.
Le Monde reported that tried in absentia, Langhorne has been a fugitive in Guyana since his release due to a procedural error in 2024. Subject to an international arrest warrant, he was the last person to see Alicia Faye alive after picking her up from her hotel. “Traces of the victim’s blood were found in his car and on one of his shoes (…) . His guilt is established ,” emphasized the public prosecutor, Gisèle Auguste, during her closing arguments.
