WIN parliamentarian resigns as police probe alleged sexual offence

Last Updated on Friday, 2 October 2026, 11:46 by Written By Denis Chabrol

Dr Andre Lewis

We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) parliamentarian Dr Andre Lewis on Friday resigned from the National Assembly, as police continued to probe his alleged involvement in a sexual offence.

The Guyana Police Force haa not commented on that probe.

Following is the letter resignation.

Dear Mr. Speaker,
I hereby tender my resignation as a Member of the National Assembly of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, with effect from the date of receipt of this letter.
I have taken this decision in light of allegations that have been made against me and the ongoing investigation into those allegations. Given the seriousness of the matter and the responsibilities attached to public office, I believe that resigning from the National Assembly is the appropriate course of action while the relevant processes are ongoing.

For clarity, my resignation should not be construed as an admission of wrongdoing or as a determination of guilt. I remain committed to due process and to allowing the relevant authorities to conduct their investigations.

I am grateful to the people of Guyana for the opportunity to serve as a Member of Parliament and to We Invest in Nationhood for the confidence placed in me.
I hereby submit this resignation in accordance with Article 156(1)(a) of the Constitution of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana.”
