A resident of Vigilance, East Coast Demerara was Thursday charged with the abduction of two Surinamese men and granted bail.
Jimmol Murphy, who is the brother of Mark “Demon”/ “Diamond” Cromwell also of Vigilance, was charged with the offence and appeared virtually in the Fort Wellington Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Shareefah Parks.
Demerara Waves Online News was told that Mr Murphy was not required to plead to the indictable charge, granted bail GY$1 million and ordered to attend the Blairmont Magistrates’ Court on October 19, 2026.

He was accused of abducting the Surinamese men 28-year-old Siegello Lorenzo Van Dalen of Moustachestraat #29, Saramacca and Koetaristraat 8, and 29-year-old Derryl Danillo Bont of Adolfstraat #9 Wanica on August 29, 2026 at Rosignol, West Coast Demerara.
Mr Murphy was ordered to attend the Blairmont Magistrates’ Court on October 19 for report.
The whereabouts of the Surinamese men are still unknown.
If Mr Murphy is found guilty of abduction to secretly and wrongfully confine them, he can be fined up to GY$750,000 and imprisonment for five years.
Defence lawyer, Siand Dhurjon told the court that Mr Murphy provided an alibi that he was in between Houston and Greater Georgetown at the material time. He also said that the investigators had no regard for that and took no steps to contact the individuals with whom Mr Murphy had said he was with on the day. The lawyer said there is also the fact that , taking the prosecutions case at its highest, there is nothing to say that Mr Murphy – provided it were him who transported the men from Rosignol – did anything untoward. He said the adult men might have happily left Guyana through its porous borders to a neighboring country. The other defence lawyers are Mark Waldron and Meshon Persaud.
Prior to his court appearance, he surrendered to police on Friday morning to Tuesday when he was released on bail. When he returned to the police station on Thursday, he was taken into custody and charged with the offence of abduction.
Mr Cromwell’s wife, whose car was allegedly used to transport the men, has not been charged with any offence. She remains on station bail.
Surinamese and Guyanese police said on September 19 that both men were reported missing after leaving their respective address on August 28 in a Toyota Vitz for Nickerie.
Police also said they were last seen on August 29 exiting that car in Clarasluis (Clara Sluice) in Nickerie to travel to Guyana by boat.
