A Cuban man has been arrested for the late Saturday night killing one of his countrymen at a shipyard at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, Guyanese police said.
Luis Angel Rodriguez Guillen, 37, was allegedly stabbed to his chest by another Cuban man during an argument at about 11 p.m. Saturday.
Investigators were told preliminarily that Rodriguez Guillen and the other man, 32, both employees at a shipyard, were involved in an argument which escalated into a physical altercation.
During the altercation, police said the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and stabbed Rodriguez Guillen to his chest.
He subsequently collapsed in the hallway of the workers’ quarters at the shipyard, police added.
The Guyana Police Force also said other workers at the location restrained the suspect and subsequently handed him over to the police.
“A knife suspected to have been used during the incident was recovered and lodged as evidence.” police said.
Guillen Rodriguez was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy would be performed on the body as part of the ongoing investigations.
