No sighting of missing Surinamese men in Guyana – police

Two Surinamese men, who went missing almost one month ago when they were last seen in their country’s border township of Nickerie, have so far not been sighted in neighbouring Guyana, a senior police officer here said Sunday.

The head of the Guyana Police Force’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Deputy Police Commissioner Wendell Blanhum, told Demerara Waves Online News that “the investigation is ongoing” and so far there had been no sign of the men in Guyana.

Surinamese and Guyanese police on Saturday, in separate bulletins, indentified the men as 28-year-old Siegello Lorenzo Van Dalen of Moustachestraat #29, Saramacca and Koetaristraat 8, and 29-year-old Derryl Danillo Bont of Adolfstraat #9 Wanica.

Guyanese police said both men were reported missing after leaving their respective address on Friday, August 28, 2026 in a Toyota Vitz for Nickerie.

Police also said they were last seen on August 29 exiting that car in Clarasluis (Clara Sluice) in Nickerie to travel to Guyana by boat.

“Searches were conducted and several persons were questioned. No useful information was obtained,” the Guyana Police Force (GPF) added.

The GPF is asking the public that if they see the men or know of anyone who has information about the whereabouts of the missing men, to contact: 911, 227-1611, 268-2328/268-2329, 226-3411, 225-8196 & 227-1159 or the nearest police station.

The Suriname Police Corps said anyone who can provide information about the whereabouts of these missing persons is requested to contact the Major Crimes Unit on telephone number 403645, 403252, the Command Center (CC) on 115, or the nearest police station.
