The main opposition We Invest in Nationhood (WIN).on Thursday told A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) that it was ready to discuss not only concerns about excluding APNU nominees from the Local Government Commission (LGC) but a broader on several major outstanding issues.
Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed told APNU Chairman Aubrey Norton that he also wants to discuss the three opposition commissioners currently serving at the Guyana Elections Commission,scrutineers involved in the registration process at GECOM, and the election of the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Region10 Council.
APNU and its allied Commissioners Vincent Alexander, Charles Corbin and Desmond Trotman say there is no constitutional provision for them to resign although APNU is no longer the main opposition party in parliament.
Mr Mohamed invited Mr Norton to a meeting onMonday, August 24, 2026, at 11am at the WIN party office, Serenity Court, Green Acres, East Bank Demerara.
The WIN leader made virtually no reference to the APNU Chairman’s concerns about the manner in which the process was handled, and Mr Norton’s demand that at least one of his party’s two nominees to sit on the LGC.
Mr Mohamed also detailed several instances to demonstrate that it was working closely with other opposition parties.
“We have also sought to facilitate meaningful participation by APNU within the parliamentary opposition, including our agreement to allow APNU an alternate on the Economics Services Committee and the Foreign Relations Committee, as wellas our support for APNU to take up the Vice-Chair position on the Natural Resources Committee ” he said.
