President’s declared farm size nearly half of satellite measurement

President Irfaan Ali on Tuesday said the size of his farm at Long Creek, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, is about 60 acres.

That is in sharp contrast to an estimated measurement by Google Earth Pro of the area that is visibly carved out from the rainforest.

Google Earth Pro says the farm is approximately 114.81 acres.

The president only disclosed the acreage when pressed by reporters, after he repeated that “I said publicly that it’s not even half of that”, referring to the 150 acres alleged last month by Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed.

Dr Ali claimed that “everyone” including members of the private sector knew he had a farm.

He said he would be going live on social media from his farm at the “appropriate time.”

Though Mr Mohamed, his one-time friend, estimated that the farm was valued about GYD$2.2 billion, the President did not say how much money was invested in the farm which includes fruits, vegetables, cattle, sheep, fish, a farmhouse, and several buildings.

Instead, he reiterated that all his properties had been disclosed in filings to the Integrity Commission.

He said his investments include loans.

“I have took (sic) loans, documented and also submitted to the Integrity Commission, reinvested and reinvested, and I wish if I could get even 20% of what the opposition leader is purporting. So I made it very clear. I have nothing to hide. Every single thing that I own, that I own, has been declared to an Integrity Commission,” he said.
