The handgun that police said they seized during an investigation of an alleged armed robbery at Issano.

Three gold miners were arrested Thursday in connection with the alleged robbery and assault of a gold miner at 14 miles, Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni River, police said.

The victim, who is 30 years old and is from St. Ignatius village, Central Rupununi, said he was robbed of GY$130,000 and assaulted while at a shop in the area at about 3 a.m. Thursday.

The Guyana Police Force said in a statement that they have since arrested two suspects, ages 27 and 49, of Craig, East Bank Demerara and West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, respectively.

They had earlier escaped on a motorcycle.

Police said that further investigations led them to another location in the area, where a Glock pistol, one magazine and three live rounds of ammunition were recovered.

A 32-year-old gold miner of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, was arrested in connection with the discovery.

The firearm, magazine and ammunition were lodged pending examination, police added.

The victim informed police that during the alleged robbery, one of the suspects was reportedly armed with a handgun and several rounds were discharged.

Police said the man was subsequently found injured and taken to the Mahdia Regional Hospital, where he was admitted.

His condition is regarded as serious but stable, police added.
