A 30-year old gold miner of Agatash, a village near Bartica, was arrested Monday night for allegedly attempting to murder a housewife and a gold miner who reside in the same village, police said.
Police said the suspect was apprehended and handed over to law enforcement agents.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 PM at Agatash.
Those injured are a 57-year-old housewife and a 19-year-old gold miner.
The Guyana Police Force said preliminary investigations revealed that during an incident at the location, the two victims were allegedly attacked by a 30-year-old man, during which they sustained injuries. No information was provided about the circumstances surrounding the incident and how the victims were injured.
Both victims were taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where they were examined, treated and admitted as patients.
Police added that the 19-year-old was subsequently referred to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital for further medical attention. “His condition is regarded as serious, while the 57-year-old woman is in a stable condition,” police added.
