Police said during the operation at about 4 PM,  a 23-year-old businessman of Dukestown and a 23-year-old labourer of Springlands, Corriverton were arrested.

Police said the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) agents went to the Dukestown seawall area, where they observed a wooden boat in the Corentyne River with four unidentified male occupants, while two other males were seen standing on the seawall with one black box each in their hands.

As the law enforcers approached and identified themselves, police said the two men reportedly dropped the boxes and attempted to flee, while the boat sped away in the Corentyne River.

The two men were subsequently apprehended and the boxes were opened in their presence, during which two black ZORAKI 9mm pistols and one round of ammunition, were found.

Police said the suspects were escorted to the Springlands Police Station along with the suspected firearms and ammunition, which were lodged pending investigation.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
